After losing the toss and being asked to bowl we took a bit of a hammering at the hands of the oppositions opening batters. A combination of good shots from half-decent bowling and some uncharacteristic sloppy fielding from Ladybridge allowed their best batting pair to amass 42 runs in their 4 overs.

Ladybridge rallied though, restricting the remaining 3 batting pairs to just 46 runs through disciplined bowling (Freddie and Henry taking 5 wickets between them), increased enthusiasm, and improved awareness in the field, leading to 2 run outs.
Unfortunately, any response from our batters was thwarted – initially by decent bowling and loss of wickets, then by a succession of wides and no-balls from the opposition (31 in total!), making it difficult for Ladybridge to go on the attack for most of the innings. Our youngest pairing of Inni and Zara got wise to the inconsistent bowling and showed excellent foot movement to get to the ball and take every run that was on offer – the two developed a great understanding and gave a masterclass in calling and running between the wickets. A fantastic partnership from these guys (35), Inni top scoring with 19 runs, backed up with a performance and attitude that saw Zara (9 runs, including a beautiful pull shot from a no-ball!) take a much deserved player of the match award – which saw us come within 20 runs or so of the oppositions tally. A great effort by all, but a special mention to these two who did us proud.
